One of the fun things I like to do with my computer is generate morphing sequences. I like to turn
people into their pets or other favorite objects (cars, guitars, etc.) Although it takes a while to set it up,
the results are pretty interesting.
What exactly is a morphing sequence? It is when you have two images, and make one image
transform into the other image. This is much more than just fading from one to the other, the images
change from one to the other by distorting the first image so that the change into the final image is
gradual. In the case of a person into, say, a dog, the persons nose grows in length, and turns black.
The ears move up on the head and curl. You have probably seen a morphing sequence in
commericals or in movies. Star Trek has used them (in the movies and the Next Gen series).
My sequences are by no means as professional looking as they do in the movies, but then, I'm
running off-the-shelf morphing software on a PC, not some very custom program running on a high-end
Silicon Graphics workstation!
It is a fun thing to do though, and I get a kick out of the results.
My dog and I at about the halfway point, this was one of my very first morphing
sequences and it shows!
Me and my Bass Guitar at the halfway point. I told the software to morph the neck earlier than
everything else for this particular effect. Interesting, isn't it? :)
